72 hours post-amp and Bentley thinks he’s superman!

Hello all and Happy Monday!! So Bentley seems to be doing great at home, he is doing much better than I expected – but the verdict is that Bentley is stubborn as hell! He has been holding his pee for 16 hours, then when we take him out he doesn’t want to go. We bring him in, get him laying back down and the second you turn around he’s gotten up and is trting to walk to the door!!! I guess it’s a good thing bcuz he obviously feels good and is starting to get the hang of it – but doc says we shouldn’t let him walk alone yet bcuz of incision..he is making it very difficult though!! He literally will just stand there if you put sling on like screw you I am not a puppet..then if you have your back turned he’ll get up and  try to walk on his own! He only gets a couple steps before he needs to stop and rest, or he sometimes wobbles and falls. :/
So, I’m not sure what we should do – I got NO sleep last night because I was terrified that he’d get up on his own and hurt himself..so literally every time he’d so much as move a toe I sit straight up in bed. Those of you with big dogs, how did you deal with this? Is this normal that he’s already over it and trying to get up and go? Im just so afraid he’s going to hurt himself, but it’s also impossible to sit and watch him 24/7 – as it is we have to have someone to come stay with him this week because I have some stuff I need to done for work. I’m just trying to figure out how not to hold him back, but also don’t want him getting hurt – and mama bear needs to sleep, so what we did last night isn’t going to work!

And just for some good laughs..this was last night after he went out to pee, playing and being silly with his sisters. 🙂trim.F944AA2D-A406-4E22-9FC7-653E70630594

  1. BENTLY!! LOOOOOOVE YOU!! I could look at that cute mug of yours all day!!
    Goodness gracious you are cute!!

It’s wnderful that Bently is doing so well! My Hapy Hannah kept me up for many, many nights, but that was because she was so comfortable, restless and whining. I felt so helpless! Soyou and I were lacking in sleep but for different reasons. I like yours best!

Happy Hannah 118 lbs. (sans rear leg) pretty much monitored herself. Other than restlessness, she pretty mch just wanted to lay or sit. I had a ramp built for her prior to surgery so she was alreadyused to gongu and down that. Like you, I would try a towel sling and she would have no part of it. I just let her walk without it but stayed by her side.

Frnt leggers tend to have more face plants at first so I would just kimd of be by his side to help should he need it. Basically, my vet said just don’t let her over-do it, but she could go out to pee and poop get a little fresh air, sniff around. Just no jumping, stairs, etc.

For atever reason, I wasn’t able to see the video. I jave a tablet and it won’t let me see as much as “regular computer people” can see. Darn it!!

But I can see more photos n this thing! Hint!

Thanks for the good update! Always nice to hear when the “recovery problem” is trying to hold them back some!

GOOD JOB BENTLEY!! GOOD JOB MOM!

  2. Yes, you have a good problem to have, I think. I wish I had some advice for you, but it sounds like he’s being sneaky. My big boy was also raring to go (up on the one hind leg at the vet’s two days after surgery, ugh). In addition to Sally’s (great) advice, sometimes I would be sneaky myself and watch over him, but not be too close to him. That way, he didn’t feel like I was “mothering” him, but I could get to him quickly if something happened. I think it’s a good sign that Bentley is pushing his limits; you’ll be amazed at how fast he catches on. Just hang in there a few more days! He’s adorable.
